I was listening to the top of the hour news on Canadian broadcast outlet CBC on Saturday, and was disturbed enough by something I heard that I had to go back and check it again.

CBC reporter Michelle Song was telling a story about how India has accused a number of Canadian colleges and universities of human trafficking, by virtue of becoming visa mills for immigrants. The story itself talks about how this plays into the Trump narrative that the Canadian border with the US is porous.

However, the last sentence of the story made my blood boil. She said, “But the question still remains: Is this enough to prove to Trump that Canada can secure its border?”

Canada is a sovereign nation, and despite the bluster issuing forth from the President-elect’s stinking hole, and being vomited onto social media outlets by the same, Canada is not subject to the United States’ whims.
