Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, breaking with the tradition of honoring the passing of a past President, has ordered that the flags in the state be raised to full mast for the inauguration of Donald Trump.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, breaking with the tradition of honoring the passing of a past President, has ordered that the flags in the state be raised to full mast for the inauguration of Donald Trump.

The flags are currently at half-staff in memory of former President Jimmy Carter, who died on Dec. 29 at 100 years old.

Ivey had ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff for 30 days on Dec. 30, as is standard practice when a president dies.

In a news release, the governor said raising the flags for Inauguration Day is in accordance with federal law. She said flags will return to half-staff on Jan. 21 and remain so for the rest of the 30-day mourning period.
